Synopsis

Jake Humphrey presents live coverage of the pre-race build-up to the German Grand Prix from the Nürburgring.

In last year's race, 2008 champion Lewis Hamilton led from start to finish and had a 20 second advantage by the first round of pit stops. That lead had been whittled down to less than six seconds by the time he took the chequered flag, but by then he had secured 10 more championship points.

Renault's Nelson Piquet Jr finished second with fellow Brazilian Felipe Massa completing the podium. Jenson Button will be hoping for an improved showing on 12 months ago, when he finished last of the 17 cars that completed the race.

The atmosphere promises to be raucous with a quarter of the 20-man field in this year's Drivers' Championship hailing from Germany. Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel is the highest placed in the current standings - the 22-year-old impressed with his magnificent win at Silverstone.
