  • Showbusiness News - Part One

As Wimbledon entered its second week, when the grunts of the female tennis player get increasing louder, you suggested more professions where grunting was completely inappropriate. While Trucker Tim thought that snooker players should never grunt under any circumstance, we felt it could liven up that somewhat subdued game.

Plus with our thoughts turning to summer holidays and with some airlines charging to check-in luggage you offered some top tips on how we could all ‘travel light’. We particularly liked Cross Lanes Bob’s suggestion of wearing a fisherman’s jacket since it’s numerous pockets were the perfect place to store the passport, toiletries and spare underwear: no baggage, no excess fee and no hassle – perfect!

And as much of the UK basked in sweltering temperatures, Cath in Swansea advised us to cool down the house by taking out the loft hatch. However it resulted in a bit of Fred Slippage as we feared this would allow all the scary monsters that inhabit the attic to sneak into the house. Mark on the M5 claimed that leaving his loft hatch open would allow the squirrels to destroy the rest of his house not just the loft insulation and wiring which those pesky rodents have already done. Still that might be better than tackling the crocodiles that we decided live under the bed!

  • Showbusiness News - Part Two

Later in the week we learned through ‘I’d Do Anything But I Won’t Do That’….some of your treasured items from the past that you just can’t bear to throw out. Oystercatcher text to say that he had a suitcase at his parent’s house, containing all the beloved toy cars from his childhood. However, we advised him to check the suitcase was still there as his parents might not feel so sentimental about the contents and consigned it to the dustbin.

If that was the case, we were on hand with comforting platitudes such as those we offered up to Paul who slammed his finger in the car door and wished someone was there to administer some sympathy. Always willing to help we did offer to “kiss it better”.

We ended the week by revisiting Wimbledon to discover if that great occasion had resulted in you being bitten by the ‘sporting bug’. A very game Stevie G let us know that he was planning to form a synchronised ‘Granddad’s Falling Off Skateboards’ team…hopefully wearing plenty of costly padding! Talking of cost, Cormack offered up some tips for those wishing to take up gymnastics on a budget. He claimed you could use a work bench as a vaulting horse, a bit of carpet underlay for the floor routine and the beam was that bit of 2 by 4 propped up in the corner. However, we weren’t convinced this represented a real saving when you factored in the expensive medical treatment needed to rectify the injuries sustained by using such unsafe equipment. Remember; please don’t try this at home!
