Our Friends Electric

For most they're little more than an eyesore, but for a select brand they're absolutely electrifying. They bestride the British countryside and bring voltaic juice to the nation. So why don't we appreciate these terrific transmitters more? We went live, down the line to founder of the Pylon Appreciation Society, Flash Bristow, to find out why.

Tuesday 2 June - Question

Every time an advert comes on the TV it would appear to be an advert for a sofa sales at the moment. But what was the most advertised product in 2008 overall and by media type, TV, Radio, Newspaper and Internet? From Cara Stone.

Tuesday 2 June - Answer

The most comprehensive figures for this are for 2007 in the Advertising Statistics Yearbook, containing research by Nielson Media. I can tell you that the most-advertised product across all media in 2007 WAS DFS Sofas - with a total spend of £95 million pounds. The company that advertised the most in the print media was Bskyb; on television it was Proctor and Gamble and on the internet it was Personal Loan Express. And the body that spent the most on advertising on the radio was the government, through public information campaigns.
