Synopsis

We discover the abundance of alternative appliances that can be plugged into your car cigarette lighter. And Is Video Killed The Radio Star the greatest pop song ever? Chris investigates.

Video Killed The Radio Star

Is there such a thing as pop perfection? Well if there is we think it might sound a little something like The Buggles’ Video Killed The Radio Star. So we tuned in on the pair that penned the first modern pop song, Bruce Woolley and Trevor Horn to see if Video Killed The Radio Star deserves a place in pop history.

Lighten Up

The in-car cigarette lighter is a design classic. Formerly known as a cigar lighter receptacle it's now used for almost anything but sparking up your cigs. Director of Royal & VIP Relations at Bentley Motors Richard Charlesworth and Editor of What Car? Magazine Steve Fowler gave us the low down on the abundance of alternative appliances we could be plugging in and lighting up.

Wednesday 29 April - Question

We keep hearing in the news that the gravy train has come to an end. Could you tell me what is the gravy train? David Greenhough, South Yorkshire

Wednesday 29 April - Answer

A gravy train means any easy and lucrative way of obtaining money. It comes from the fact that gravy is used as an extra on top of the basic meat and veg in a meal and by the beginning of the 20th century the word gravy was being used to mean money that had been easily acquired, OR money that had been obtained illicitly. A GRAVY TRAIN was US railroad slang for an easy run where the pay was good, and this was adopted into general speech during the 1920s.
