Newswipe, Series 1 Episode 4 of 6

Duration: 30 minutes

Charlie Brooker sets his satirical sights on news and current affairs, taking a look at how graphics have morphed over the years from modest explaining devices to shouty, scary, video game-style extravaganzas.

Brooker also charts the way the media handled both the politics and the protests of the G20 summit in London, while Ben Goldacre, author of Bad Science, vents his anger over its coverage of science stories.

  • Brian Deer: An Apology

In our programme featuring MMR we commented on the irony of the outrage expressed by the media at the health scare caused by the publication of suspected links between the MMR vaccine and autism, when the media had been responsible for reporting the research underpinning those links without questioning the science behind it. One of the articles used to illustrate the point was written by Brian Deer. In fact Mr Deer played no part in the original outcry and his reporting was always clearly in the public interest. We are sorry if viewers would have understood otherwise.
