Episode 19 of 20

Duration: 30 minutes

Ben Fogle leads a team of deserving heroes on the final leg of his epic South American adventure from the Equator to the Tropic of Capricorn. In this episode, they cross the legendary Atacama Desert in Chile, the driest place on earth, in a bid to summit Volcano Corona.

There is a medical crisis as air ambulance paramedic Haydn is suffering a life-threatening case of altitude sickness and has to be evacuated off the mountain. While Ben and the team wait for news, they attempt to acclimatise to the altitude with a short trek. But they face a 100-foot abseil down a sheer rock face and it is a tough challenge for ex-RAF Navigator Dessie, who is petrified of heights.

Before they launch their summit attempt on Volcano Corona, they must complete a final trek to base camp. But the altitude strikes down another member of the team as army nurse Jenny develops a dry cough. With fears that she is developing fluid on her lungs, it looks like the end of her summit dreams.
