Synopsis

Philip Dodd discusses the enduring fascination with the Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara, the subject of a new biography and a film. He looks at Simon Reid-Henry's Fidel and Che, which explores the friendship between the rebel Fidel Castro and the itinerant doctor Che Guevara, as well as Soderbergh's films Che: Part One and Part Two, which tell his life story and feature Benicio del Toro in the title role.

David Hare

Philip Dodd talks to that titan of British political drama David Hare.

From the 1970’s onwards he produced a series of state of the nation plays for the BBC in what came to be seen as a “golden age” of television drama.

Philip Dodd asks him why he thinks the BBC’s abandonment of the single TV play is a “spineless betrayal of the playwright, the art and the public”.
