Pay What It Is Worth

Synopsis

Last time eight restaurants prepared for opening night, but only seven opened. James and Alasdair's Gallery was closed at the last moment by a gas leak. Mike and Harriet's Blue Goose opened with catastrophic results: Raymond almost closed them - then gave them another chance.

Now all eight open again, but this time their customers will pay only what they think their meals and service are worth. It's Raymond's way of bringing the couples' dreams down to earth. All the couples have to find ways of enticing the locals into paying generously. In prosperous Marlow, James rests his hopes on haute cuisine. Mum and dad Sephen and Helen cater for families who won't pay high prices, so they must pack in a full house. The Welsh Wok hopes its unique fusion of Welsh and Chinese cooking will command good prices.

All eight couples walk a tightrope between too full and too empty, too much and too little. Then Raymond's inspectors arrive to make their own judgements of what each meal is worth. And Raymond's final decision awards one couple his coveted Restaurant of the Week and puts the failing couples in a challenge to decide who will close.
