Synopsis

The boys are back. As the UK tightens its collective economic belt, what better way to lift the spirits than combining a spot of home baking with the ever popular Hairy Bikers, as they return to our screens as The Hairy Bakers. In each episode of this new four part series the Hairy Bikers, Dave Myers and Simon King, take to the road to find the very best in baking in Britain.

The first programme in the series looks at bread. As a nation we routinely consume ciabatta, focaccia and naan, but how many of us can turn out a decent loaf? Our biking Bakers show how easy and rewarding it can be, visiting Doncaster market and baking a healthy white roll for the perfect bacon and sausage buttie.

The Hairies commandeer a windmill in Lincolnshire to mill their own flour and make a classic brown loaf to go with the perfect ploughman's lunch. They also conjure up homemade naan bread and a curry on the shores of Derwent Valley in the Peak District, whilst back in the warmth of Dave's kitchen they bake a fantastic Brown Ale and Cheese bread, served with onion soup.
