Stephen Johnson presents an elegiac portrait of Vaughan Williams the man and composer. Travelling across England - the country he so loved - to see the places he lived and worked, and meet the people who knew him, Johnson tries to get a little closer to an underrated mind.
With contributions from philosopher AC Grayling, biographers Simon Heffer and Michael Kennedy, Vaughan Williams's musical assistant Roy Douglas as well as friend and colleague Simona Pakenham.
