The Ladies Scottish Climbing Club

Muriel Gray uncovers the pioneering history of this exclusive club, founded in 1908 by three middle class ladies frustrated at being excluded from the all-male Scottish Mountaineering Club. Members hid their breeches under long tweed skirts and climbed in heavy hobnail boots. Today's formidable members reveal that the story of the club is in many ways the story of women's mountaineering.
