Synopsis
Huw Williams celebrates the 50th anniversary of the folk song The Bells of Rhymney, first recorded by iconic protest singer Pete Seeger and subsequently by many others. Williams traces its history back to the 1926 General Strike and the 1938 publication of the words to the song by former Welsh miner Idris Davies.
The programme includes new versions of the song by Roger McGuinn, Mike Peters of the Alarm and 88-year-old Pete Seeger himself.
