70th Birthday Celebrations

One of the highlights of the 2009 Belfast Festival at Queen’s was the concert with two of Northern Ireland’s most acclaimed poets: Seamus Heaney and Michael Longley, celebrating their 70th birthdays with the Ulster Orchestra, conducted by Proinnsios O’Duinn.

The concert took place at the Waterfront Hall, Belfast on 17 October 2009 and was broadcast on BBC Radio Ulster’s Sounds Classical programme on 18 and 25 October, presented by Marie Louise Muir.

Festival Nights was there for BBC1 Northern Ireland.

Sing Hallelujah with Sounds Classical

On next week's show we'll have a very special performance of Handel's Hallejulah chorus to mark the 250th anniversary of the composer's death - part of a BBC-wide project called Sing Hallejulah! Singers from across NI will be joining Marie-Louise Muir in studio to perfom the chorus at the top of the show. The event will be fronted by the Belfast-based chamber choir Melisma and they will also be performing a selection of other pieces in the programme. All that, plus more performances from local young musicians, the usual music news, reviews and popular classics …
