When the wardens' HQ is bombed, they have to share the church hall with the Home Guard, despite Captain Mainwaring's disapproval. The wardens are terribly disruptive and decide to start a fire since it is a bit drafty in the hall. Wilson suggests they put some salt on the fire. After it is lit the fire won't go out - causing even more mayhem.
