  • About the show

Classical Collection: Join Sarah Walker and James Jolly mid-morning on Radio 3 for great music in classic recordings. Each week there's a collection of works built around a theme, a collection of works highlighting a famous artist - it could be a conductor, a pianist or a singer - and a collection of works by a particular composer - Beethoven's Cello Sonatas, Tchaikovsky's Suites or Saint-Saens' Piano Concertos, for example. Every Monday has the complete performance of the Building a Library critic's choice (as featured in CD Review the previous Saturday), and the 'Group of Three' on Tuesdays and Thursdays gives an insight into performers' interpretations or composers' treatments by comparing and contrasting three shorter pieces. On Wednesday James and Sarah feature an award-winning disc, on Thursdays there's light music, and on Friday a virtuoso performer is celebrated.

Note: Inevitably, many discs we play are unavailable, or they may currently be available but under different disc numbers or on different labels from the ones listed.
