Her feistiness, though charming, can take her beyond the boundaries of good behaviour. When Alan feels overwhelmed, he occasionally calls on the restraining influence of Amy's Jamaican grandmother Mabel Thompson, who lives in Bradford.
When she discovered that her mother had been sentenced for a violent incident as a teenager, Amy worried that her own hot temper might one day get her into similar trouble. But Alan and Usha managed to persuade Amy that her caring side was pre-emininent.

Favourite
- Actor - So many actors inspire me for lots of different reasons. Hilary Swank, Angela Bassett, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Elizabeth Taylor. Chloe Sevigny always makes interesting film choices. And Meryl Streep seems to be able to transform herself endlessly.
- Book - The Catcher in The Rye and To Kill A Mockingbird. And at the time of writing, I'm enjoying Waterline by Ross Raisin.
