His failure to get into Oxbridge was a massive blow to overbearing mum Zainab, who was using her son's academic achievements as a stick to beat arch-rival Denise Johnson. Unlike his handsome brother Syed, nerdy Tamwar didn’t have much luck in love when the family first arrived on The Square. He made a pass at Syed's lady Amira, and rather than the saucy smacker he craved, got a smack across the face instead.
While his cheek was still stinging, Afia came along. She saw past his awkward nerdy-ness, romance blossomed and she became his wife, but it wasn't long before family pressures started to get in the way of their love.
Himesh Patel
- Playing Tamwar Masood is Himesh's first professional acting job
- On the morning of his EastEnders audition, he had to sit his GCSE science exam. Luckily, he passed both!
- His interests include playing football and creative writing, particularly scripts. He wrote episode 2 of series 3 of E20.
- Himesh's sister once spotted Nitin Ganatra (Masood Ahmed) in a restaurant and got his autograph for Himesh. On hearing that Himesh wanted to be an actor, Nitin wrote a note hoping that they would work together some day. Little did he know that Himesh would one day play his on-screen son!
