BBC Radio Wales offers a range of sport through the week and at weekends, across FM, AM, digital radio / TV and online. This page will guide you through what you will be able to hear, depending on what team you support, or what area of Wales you’re in.

FM

BBC Radio Wales has rights to broadcast every Cardiff City game home and away across Wales. If there are a number of games being played at once, you’ll be able to hear Cardiff City on FM in south east Wales (an area which approximately stretches west to Porthcawl and Maesteg, north to Abergavenny). Click here to find the FM frequency in your area.

DAB

When Cardiff City games are broadcast on FM in south east Wales, you will also hear them on DAB in the Cardiff area too. Outside of these times DAB carries the same version of Radio Wales as the rest of Wales.

AM

When all four Welsh teams are playing, AM will feature Newport County. When there aren’t clashes, we’ll cover the biggest game we have rights for on AM and Digital TV.

TV

The version of Radio Wales you'll hear on digital TV is usually, but not always, the same as that you can hear on AM. As we can broadcast on digital TV seperately, on those days where there are several games broadcast simeltanously, we’ll aim to broadcast the biggest game we have rights for on our Digital TV channels.

Online

We do not have online rights for Cardiff City games in the Football League Championship and the League Cup. We have UK rights for FA Cup games.

When those FA Cup games are broadcast on digital TV, which feeds BBC iPlayer Radio, you'll be able to hear the games via the iPlayer Radio Wales channel and here on the Radio Wales website (in the UK only).

If we have rights for Cardiff City games online but they are not being broadcast on digital TV (for example, only on FM in the south east of Wales), you'll be able to hear them via the BBC Sport Wales website but not here on the BBC Radio Wales website or iPlayer.

Our online live stream uses Digital TV as its source, meaning whatever you hear on 'Listen Live', on desktop, mobile or tablet, is also whatever is going out on air, at that time, on digital TV (Freeview, Freesat, Sky and cable television).

If the digital TV feed carries games for which we do not have online rights, you will hear a blanking message at this time, explaining the situation. If we do have online rights for games which are playing out on our other frequencies (e.g a Wrexham game being broadcast on FM in north Wales), you'll be able to hear that on the BBC Sport Wales website, or the BBC Sport app.

If sports commentaries are not available online at all, you can tune in to the station via FM, AM, or digital to continue listening, or continue following most sports fixtures online via text updates on the BBC Sport website.

Listeners in Wales will always be able to hear live sport on Radio Wales across FM, AM (Medium Wave), on digital radio and TV.
