Football Focus
Saturday 15 November
12.10-1.00pm BBC ONE

Manish Bhasin and guests preview the weekend's football fixtures and look back at the big stories from the last seven days.

The big four in the Barclays Premier League are all in action today, with Chelsea travelling to West Brom in the late game and Liverpool visiting Bolton in the lunchtime kick-off. Arsenal and Aston Villa, two of the Premier League's most attractive sides to watch, meet at the Emirates Stadium, while new boys Stoke face an awesome task at the home of champions Manchester United.

There's also a full programme of Coca-Cola Football League fixtures while, in the Clydesdale SPL, Rangers host St Mirren with Celtic facing Hamilton on Sunday.

Viewers can also take a look ahead to the midweek international friendlies, which feature all the home nations. Fabio Capello has guided England to their best-ever start in a World Cup qualifying campaign but has promised to experiment when they travel to play old foes Germany. Scotland face Argentina at Hampden, while Wales visit Denmark and Northern Ireland host Hungary.

Phil Jones brings viewers highlights from the Rugby League World Cup, which has reached the semi-finals stage.

It would be a major surprise if Australia, New Zealand and England don't make up three-quarters of the last four line-up, with all three hoping to be hitting their stride ahead of the final, which takes place in Brisbane a week today.

There is also a look back at what's been happening in the tournament over the past few days, including the semi-final qualifier match and the meeting of Australia and Papua New Guinea in Townsville.

South Africa will arrive in Edinburgh as world champions after their success in France last year, having dismissed Scotland 27-3 in one of the World Cup warm-up games.

Joining Gabby in the studio are Jeremy Guscott and former Scotland international Gregor Townsend. Commentary comes from Nick Mullins and Andy Nicol.

Uther (Anthony Head) has a secret to hide
Uther (Anthony Head) has a
secret to hide

A mysterious knight arrives in Camelot, uncovering a secret from the past that Uther would prefer stayed buried, as the magical family drama continues.

At Arthur's coming-of-age ceremony, the celebrations are interrupted when a mysterious Black Knight crashes his horse through the window. He throws down his gauntlet and challenges the knights of Camelot to single combat. Sir Owain, a young, eager knight, picks it up and accepts the challenge – they will fight the next day. Uther is as white as a sheet as he watches the knight go, staring intently at the distinctive crest which marks his helmet.

The following day, a large and nervous crowd gathers to watch the fight. Sir Owain strides out to the waiting Black Knight and the pair do battle. The Black Knight is an awesome warrior, and it looks like Sir Owain doesn't stand a chance. However, Merlin is delighted when the young knight successfully strikes his opponent. He sees the blade go in but the Black Knight doesn't even flinch and, seemingly unaffected by the blow, he goes on to slay Sir Owain.

Later, Gaius takes Merlin down into the crypt below Camelot and to the tomb of Tristan De Bois. Gaius is horrified to see that it is empty – his body has gone. Merlin listens as Gaius explains that the mysterious knight bears the crest of Tristan De Bois, who was the brother of Uther's wife. Driven mad with grief, he blamed Uther for his sister's death in childbirth. Gaius tells Merlin that he thinks the Black Knight is Tristan De Bois, brought back from the dead to exact his revenge.

Merlin discovers that there is only one way to kill a vengeance wraith – with a sword forged in a dragon's breath. But is it too late for Arthur who, determined not to lose any more of his knights, is due to fight the Black Knight the following day?

Anthony Head plays Uther, Bradley James plays Arthur, Kyle Redmond-Jones plays Sir Owain, Colin Morgan plays Merlin and Richard Wilson plays Gaius. Tonight's episode also stars Angel Coulby as Gwen, Katie McGrath as Morgana, Michelle Ryan as Nimueh and John Hurt as the voice of The Great Dragon.

Casualty

8.15-9.05pm BBC ONE

The Emergency Department is in chaos this week, as the medical drama continues. There is noisy building work going on, the lifts are broken and a power-cut hits the department. Jordan and Adam disagree as to whether it is possible to run the ED effectively.

Zoe has had to look after Sharice overnight and is furious when Abby returns to pick her up, saying that she has got back with her abusive partner. Snezana later accuses Abby of stealing her savings.

Elsewhere, a girl from the local estate, who is supposed to be at school sitting an exam, is wandering around, asking for, and taking, drugs – unbeknown to her parents. Her confused state causes a tragic car accident and her parents are faced with the repercussions of her behaviour.

Dixie, meanwhile, confronts Jeff and asks him why he hadn't told her his wife had kicked him out. He throws it back in her face, however, and tells Dixie that not everything is about her.

Later, Curtis is faced with his past when he sees an old acquaintance dealing drugs. He confronts him and nearly beats him up but, at the last minute, walks away. When Alice asks him what's going on, he takes her to see his brother's grave and reveals all about his past.

Much to Adam's disapproval, Jordan decides to perform a highly risky heart operation in the ED. With Ruth and Jay's assistance, he pulls it off and the trio are elated. Flush with success, Ruth and Jordan celebrate – together.

Jordan is played by Michael French, Adam by Tristan Gemmill, Zoe by Sunetra Sarker, Snezana by Ivana Basic, Dixie by Jane Hazlegrove, Jeff by Matt Bardock, Curtis by Abdul Salis, Alice by Sam Grey, Ruth by Georgia Taylor and Jay Faldren by Ben Turner.

Match Of The Day
Saturday 15 November
9.55-11.15pm BBC ONE
www.bbc.co.uk/football

Gary Lineker brings viewers highlights from a busy day of fixtures in the Premier League.

Champions Manchester United hosted Stoke City – the Potters were hammered 5-0 on their last league visit to Old Trafford back in 1985, and their fans would have feared the worst today after a shaky start to their first season in the Premier League.

Bolton, meanwhile, have scored just one goal and conceded 14 on their last six league visits to Anfield – which didn't bode well for today's visit to Merseyside against an in-form Liverpool. Luiz Felipe Scolari took his entertaining Chelsea side to the Hawthorns to meet West Brom, while Newcastle hosted Wigan – whose manager, Steve Bruce, was a boyhood Magpies fan. Two former Manchester United midfield generals, Roy Keane and Paul Ince, went head to head at Ewood Park, where Ince's Blackburn took on Keane's Sunderland.

On their last 14 league visits to Arsenal, Aston Villa have failed to come away with a win – although they almost managed it last year, with Nicklas Bendtner saving the Gunners with a last-gasp equaliser. Could Martin O'Neill's side give their aspirations of breaking into the top four further credence with victory today?

There was also an all-London clash between Fulham and Tottenham at Craven Cottage, while Harry Redknapp took his Portsmouth side to Upton Park to face his former club, West Ham.

Emma develops a fear of the water on competition day
Emma develops a fear of the
water on competition day

It's sink or swim as the teenage lifeguard wannabes prepare for the looming Del Mar Competition. They are riddled with injuries and a cloud hangs over Joe, in particular, as he awaits advice from the doctors after damaging his toe, as the observational documentary, shown as part of BBC Switch, continues.

On competition day, Emma develops a huge fear of the water and doesn't want to swim, Sean has a knee strain, Georgie loses her board in the paddle board race and Joe shuns the medical advice and competes in the gruelling 1.5-mile beach run. Despite all of this, it's a triumphant day overall as the eight hopefuls take on their local rival academies, but only one of them manages to get a first-place certificate.

As the group go to stay in the family homes of four American friends for the weekend, they are split up for the first time. This is the ultimate "work hard, play hard" environment, where the dream of the Californian lifestyle meets tough discipline.

Rugby Union – Ireland V New Zealand
Saturday 15 November
4.55-7.05pm BBC TWO
www.bbc.co.uk/sport

John Inverdale is in Dublin this evening to host live coverage of Ireland's clash with New Zealand in their first match at Croke Park since they lost the Triple Crown decider to Wales in March.

Since then, Declan Kidney has replaced Eddie O'Sullivan at the helm and the new coach, whose reign began against Canada last weekend, could hardly face a more difficult start at the famous venue than with the visit of the All Blacks, who first played in Dublin in 1905 and have yet to leave the city as a beaten side. There is expert studio opinion on the game from former Ireland captain Keith Wood and Jonathan Davies.
