Rugby League – Challenge Cup Final
Saturday 30 August
1.35-4.30pm BBC ONE
www.bbc.co.uk/sport

Clare Balding presents live coverage of the Carnegie Challenge Cup Final from Wembley Stadium between St Helens and Hull FC.

The road to the final began in early February with 97 sides from across the British Isles, France and Russia taking part. Holders St Helens are hot favourites to retain the trophy, and victory for the 11-times winners would see them become only the second team in history to win three successive Challenge Cup Finals.

Hull FC last lifted the trophy in 2005, winning a thrilling final 25-24 against the Leeds Rhinos at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. Victory for Richard Agar's side would seal a magic Wembley double for the city of Hull, just three months after their football club won promotion to the Barclays Premier League at the national stadium.

the Last Choir Standing

The three remaining choirs battle it out in tonight's live grand finale, each desperate to claim the title of Last Choir Standing.

From the 60 choirs that auditioned at Cadogan Hall, only the best three are still in with a chance of victory. Over the past three weeks they have been vying for the votes of viewers at home, but how will they fare tonight? Two choirs will fall at the final hurdle, but one will triumph and be named Last Choir Standing.

As always, Myleene Klass and Nick Knowles host the show, with judges Russell Watson, Sharon D Clarke and Suzi Digby on hand to offer their expert opinions.

The National Lottery – Big 7
Saturday 30 August
8.00-8.50pm & 9.20-10.00pm BBC ONE (Schedule addition 15 August)

Boxing sensation Ricky Hatton, TV presenter Gethin Jones, Scott Maslen from EastEnders (Jack Branning) and Holby City's Amanda Mealing lead a host of star names featuring in The National Lottery – Big 7.

Presented by Jenni Falconer and Ben Shephard, the two-part extravaganza highlights the difference that Lottery-funded projects, both large and small, make to local communities, and celebrates the achievements of the people behind them.

The glittering gala evening focuses on a special one-off celebrity quiz, with participants including Strictly Come Dancing winner Alesha Dixon, Olympic gold medallist and rowing champion James Cracknell, EastEnders actress Rita Simons (Roxy Mitchell) and TV presenter Bill Oddie.

Meanwhile, guest presenters reveal the winners of the 2008 National Lottery Awards, highlighting the wide range of inspirational work happening across the whole of the UK at Lottery-funded projects.

The show also includes the National Lottery draws and special live performances from McFly and Gabriella Cilmi.

Match Of The Day
Saturday 30 August
10.20-11.30pm BBC ONE
www.bbc.co.uk/football

Gary Lineker presents highlights of today's six matches in the Premier League.

Newcastle United travel to the Emirates Stadium looking for their first win away to Arsenal since 2001. The Gunners' title challenge lost momentum towards the end of last season but with exciting talents such as Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor they should have enough firepower to challenge for honours again.

Paul Ince returns to Upton Park for the first time as a manager with his Blackburn side taking on West Ham. The Hammers faithful are likely to give a hostile reception to Ince, who made a controversial transfer from West Ham to Manchester United during his playing days.

Another manager facing a former side is Gary Megson. Despite having twice led West Brom to promotion, his loyalties now lie with current club Bolton.

Two sides with ambitions of breaking into the big four clash at Goodison, with Everton hosting Portsmouth. Elsewhere, top-flight debutants Hull host Wigan and Stoke make the trip to Middlesbrough.

Charles Hazlewood and Suzy Klein present highlights from a concert recorded earlier in the week commemorating the 50th anniversary of the death of the great British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams.

The BBC Symphony Orchestra and conductor Sir Andrew Davis perform Vaughan Williams's Fantasia On A Theme By Thomas Tallis and his Ninth Symphony, as well as the Serenade To Music written to words by Shakespeare for 16 leading British singers of the day and premièred by Henry Wood at his Jubilee Concert 70 years ago.

Conductor Sir Andrew Davis discusses Vaughan Williams's legacy and looks at some fascinating archive material of the composer's rehearsal for the original performance of the Serenade To Music with two of today's young singers – Sarah Tynan and Ed Lyon – who take the parts originally sung by Isobel Baillie and Heddle Nash.

Vaughan Williams's Ninth Symphony was originally intended to be based on Thomas Hardy's novel Tess Of The D'Urbervilles. In the second movement, strong connections can be traced to the end of the novel, when Tess and Angel are captured at Stonehenge, and Tess is hanged at Winchester. Actress Clemency Burton-Hill retraces Tess's final steps and reveals the musical connections.

Digital viewers can press Red on their remote controls for programme notes during the performance, and the programme is also available on the BBC HD Channel.
