The beaten body of Gunter Schmeikel, a rich German businessman, is dragged out of the water, as the crime drama set in Northumberland in 1964 and starring Martin Shaw continues. Inspector Gently and Detective Sergeant John Bacchus arrive at the scene to find Gunter's son, Wilhelm, and Wilhelm's wife, Trudi.
Gently soon discovers that Gunter was a POW in Northumberland, placed at Jim Hardyment's farm. Gently and Bacchus visit the Hardyments, who describe Schmeikel as a dear friend. On his final night, Schmeikel and the Hardyments had a knees-up at the Mariners pub, but that was the last they saw of him.
Gently and Bacchus arrest the barman, Chick Shavers, after he admits to urinating in the German's beer. He confesses to going to the quay late that night to damage Gunter's boat, but left because he saw a car parked nearby.
Robert Stratton, a local man, insists that he saw someone loitering by the boat on the night of Gunter's murder. After discovering that Robert and Gunter had previously met, Gently pays a visit to Robert's home, only to discover Robert's wife's body.
Having delved into Robert's past, Bacchus discovers that Robert was a trained killer in the Special Forces in the Army. The case is coming together piece by piece, but Gently and Bacchus are in a race against time and must hunt down their suspect to discover the motive behind the two mysterious deaths.
Gunter Schmeikel is played by Wolf Kahler, Inspector George Gently by Martin Shaw, Detective Sergeant John Bacchus by Lee Ingleby, Wilhelm by Christian Oliver, Trudi by Nathalie Boltt, Jim Hardyment by Tim Healy, Chick Shavers by Paul Broughton and Robert Stratton by Kevin Doyle.

Suzi Perry presents live coverage from Round 10 of the 2008 MotoGP series at Sachsenring.
The track in eastern Germany has hosted some thrilling races in recent years, with one of the tightest finishes in MotoGP history taking place in 2006 when Valentino Rossi triumphed in a four-way finish.
In sweltering heat last year, Dani Pedrosa took victory after Rossi slid out of the race while trying to overtake. The two are rivals at the top of the MotoGP standings this season, with Spaniard Pedrosa hoping to add a maiden world crown to his 250cc and 125cc titles.
Live coverage of the German Grand Prix is also available on BBCi.

Hazel Irvine is at Loch Lomond for the final round of this year's Barclays Scottish Open.
Always one of the most eagerly anticipated tournaments on the golfing calendar, the Scottish Open is also a chance for the world's leading golfers to play their way into form ahead of this week's Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
Two-time Scottish Open winner Ernie Els was five off the pace going into the final round at Loch Lomond last year, but mounted a spectacular final-day charge. However, it was not quite enough to catch Phil Mickelson and Gregory Havret, who fought out the title in a "sudden death" play-off, with outsider Havret landing the £500,000 first prize.

Viewers can enjoy live coverage from the third and final day of the National Championships from the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
With the Olympics now less than a month away, the meeting is also doubling as the trials for the British team. Among the events on today's schedule are the men's and women's 200m and the men's 1,500m, an event in which Britain has a great Olympic history with the likes of Sebastian Coe, Steve Ovett, Steve Cram and Peter Elliott all winning medals.
This year has seen the emergence of another potential middle-distance hero in Andy Baddeley, who broke the three minutes 50 second barrier in winning the Dream Mile in Oslo in June, and who has his eyes fixed on 1,500m glory in Beijing.

Trexx And Flipside – Little Orphan Alesha Ep 2/6
Sunday 13 July 10.45-11.15pm BBC THREE |
|
Will Flipside (David Ajala) and Trexx (Peter Dalton) make it to their breakthrough TV performance?
Wannabe rap stars Trexx and Flipside have the talent to get to the top but are chaos on a stick, as the comedy continues. Their manager, Mr Brilliance of Wu-Hah Management, is no better. His PA, Ollie, is the brains and the beauty but even she can't manage such no-hopers easily.
She sets up a breakthrough TV appearance for Trexx and Flip and all they have to do is get there on time. Sounds easy enough but, as Ollie rushes to get everything ready, Trexx and Flip are unwillingly roped in to babysitting her sister, l'il Alesha.
Meanwhile, B-ICE and his posse get wind of the TV gig and hatch a plan to sabotage it. Rap-gangsta "moll" Chinaza sends two hotties round to divert the boys' attention which, to be honest, doesn't take much. Armed with a packet of additive-filled sweets, they send Alesha into E-number-fuelled hyperdrive.
So who will step into the TV breach when it looks as if Trexx and Flip won't make it? Meet the boys' best friend ... the ABBA-loving Clinton.
Trexx is played by Peter Dalton and Flipside by David Ajala.
