Jake Humphrey and guests look ahead to the 2008 European Championships, which kick off in just a few hours when co-hosts Switzerland play the Czech Republic in Basel.

None of the home nations qualified for the tournament, but there will still be plenty of Premier League stars in action over the course of the next three weeks – including PFA Player of the Year, Cristiano Ronaldo. Germany are the favourites to win but World Cup winners Italy and runners-up France will also be present. Spain will be aiming to shrug off the label of perennial under-achievers, while reigning European champions Greece will be eager to show that their triumph in Portugal four years ago was no flash in the pan.

Gary Lineker kicks off the BBC's coverage of Euro 2008
Gary Lineker kicks off the
BBC's coverage of Euro 2008

Gary Lineker introduces live coverage of the opening match of Euro 2008, as co-hosts Switzerland take on 2004 semi-finalists Czech Republic in Basel. Alan Hansen and Alan Shearer join Gary in the studio, and commentary comes from John Motson.

Switzerland surprised many by reaching the knockout stages of the World Cup two years ago, becoming the first side ever to be eliminated from the competition without conceding a goal. Their aim over the next few weeks is to again progress from their group – no easy task given that they have yet to win a game in the tournament's history. Much will depend on the form of Arsenal's defensive pair, Philippe Senderos and Johan Djourou, and the fitness of prolific forward Alexander Frei.

The Czechs, meanwhile, were European champions in 1976, and the current side showed their class by finishing above Germany in their qualifying group. They will miss injured Arsenal play-maker Tomas Rosicky, but still boast one of the world's outstanding goalkeepers in Petr Cech.

For viewers with access to the Red button there is live match coverage with alternative commentary and rolling highlights, as well as extensive highlights of every game, all the goals from the tournament and highlights of classic matches from previous years. There is also a chance to see a replay of today's match at 7.30pm.

Coverage of the game is also available on the BBC HD Channel.

It's a quiet morning in the Emergency Department (ED), but Simon's arrival sets Charlie on edge and it's not long before they clash, as the popular medical drama continues. Charlie discovers that Simon is hosting a drinks party for the doctors, and he has been given some free televisions as part of an equipment order. However, Charlie is suspicious and, in his mind, there's evidence of bribery.

Elsewhere, a little girl found in her nightie is brought into the ED by Ian, who seems to be hiding something. The race is on when the little girl says her "Nana wouldn't wake up", and Dixie and Maggie go out in the Rapid Response Vehicle to try to find her – putting themselves at risk in the process.

At the end of an exhausting day, Charlie offers to take Maggie out, but his hopes are dashed when she gets roped into baby-sitting.

Simon is played by Paul Fox, Charlie by Derek Thompson, Ian by James Young, Dixie by Jane Hazlegrove and Maggie by Susan Cookson.

12.40-1.05pm BBC TWO

Daisy is back in town for London Fashion Week, as BBC Switch's observational documentary series, narrated by Louis Bhose, continues. The series follows six talented young friends in London trying to make it in their chosen fields of fashion, music, design, acting and DJ-ing.

Daisy is nervous about coming home and seeing all her friends, particularly her on-off boyfriend, Will. "I was freaking out on the plane, I was like: 'Oh no, I have to go back and I'm quite settled in New York, and by the time I get there I'll be upset 'cos I have to leave again!"

The return of Daisy has thrown Will's band, Blondelle, into turmoil, as Will and Daisy can't seem to keep away from each other. Will turns up late for his band's rehearsal for their Brit Awards after-party gig, which doesn't go down well with the rest of the band.

Fashion designer Kesh's big day is looming, and some of the pieces she is having made may not be ready in time – and she only has 36 hours to make a whole collection. "If it's not ready then I'm not going to have a whole collection. There's no back-up plan – I haven't even got enough fabric to make the rest of the clothes if it all goes wrong. I don't know what I'm going to do."

Daryl, meanwhile, has his first acting audition, and feels confident and surprised he remembered all his lines.

Daisy, Will and Louis later go to a showbiz party and, the following morning, the three have breakfast together at Daisy's grandmother's house and discuss how much they all miss each other.

Tennis – French Open
Saturday 7 June
2.00-4.30pm BBC TWO
www.bbc.co.uk/sport

Sue Barker presents live coverage from the women's singles final at this year's French Open.

There could well be a new name on the Roland Garros roll of honour this year after the recent shock retirement of world No. 1 Justine Henin. The Belgian has won the French Open title for the past three years and would have been the favourite again in Paris. Henin was an emphatic winner in the 2007 final, losing just three games against Serbia's Ana Ivanovic, who was playing in her first Grand Slam final.
