Based on the life and letters of Jane Austen, Miss Austen Regrets
tells the story of the novelist's final years, examining why,
despite setting the standard for romantic fiction, she died having
never married or met her own Mr Darcy.
Olivia Williams (The Sixth Sense) stars as Jane Austen, who,
approaching her 40th birthday, appears happily unmarried,
displaying all the assured wit and charm of her novels' young
heroines.
Yet, when asked by her young niece, Fanny, to help her vet
potential husbands, Jane's confident composure is threatened as she
finds herself looking back on her own potential suitors and the
choices she has made.
A chance meeting with a former acquaintance, the Reverend Brook
Bridges, sees her reflect on a marriage that never was, while, when
her family faces financial ruin, it is revealed that it all could
have been very different had she only accepted a marriage proposal
from a wealthy landowner, Harris Bigg. And when her brother, Henry,
is taken ill, Jane's passions are ignited by his handsome young
physician, the charming Doctor Charles Haden.
Written by Gwyneth Hughes (Five Days), the drama provides an
interesting insight into Austen's own romantic life.
Cassandra Austen, Jane's sister and confidante, is played by Greta
Scacchi, Fanny Austen by Imogen Poots, the Reverend Brook Bridges
by Hugh Bonneville, Mrs Austen by Phyllida Law, Henry Austen by
Adrian Edmondson and Charles Haden by Jack Huston.

Adrian Chiles is on hand with the last word on the weekend's football.
The programme includes highlights from today's two Premier League games, which involved four teams with aspirations of playing in Europe next season. Everton came unstuck when Aston Villa visited Goodison Park last season, although they did win 4-1 the year before. Tim Cahill scored twice that day but the Blues' talisman missed Villa's visit today after being ruled out for the rest of this season with a metatarsal injury.
In the day's other game, Blackburn and Portsmouth met at Fratton Park, with Pompey – their minds possibly already on their forthcoming Wembley date – looking to do the double over Rovers, having won 1-0 when the sides met at Ewood Park earlier in the campaign.
There is also a chance to see all the goals and reaction from yesterday's Premier League matches, plus a light-hearted look at the beautiful game in 2Good/2Bad.

Don (Jon Hamm) is courted by a rival ad agency
A rival ad agency with big-name accounts, including Pan Am and Esso, courts Don, as Matt Weiner's hit US drama continues to take its unflinching look at the world of Sixties advertising in New York.
The agency involves Betty in its attempt to lure him from Sterling Cooper, provoking a trip down memory lane that makes Betty rethink her role in their home.
As the Presidential campaign heats up, the agency looks for new ways to counter the latest Kennedy ads. Peggy has a wardrobe malfunction and, as the men of the office discuss her attributes, or lack of them, Pete and Ken come to blows over her.
Don is played by Jon Hamm, Betty by January Jones, Peggy by Elisabeth Moss, Pete by Vincent Kartheiser and Ken by Aaron Staton.
