Generation Jihad Ep 2/3

Monday 15 February
9.00-10.00pm BBC TWO (Schedule addition 1 February)

Peter Taylor examines a network of young jihadists that stretched across three continents, as Generation Jihad continues. They were young, most had no direct contact with Al Qaeda and, in some cases, they had not even met each other face to face but they were plotting together with murderous intent.

Peter discovers how members of Generation Jihad were turned into terrorists through exposure to violent Al Qaeda propaganda distributed over the internet.

Aabid Khan lived in Bradford, West Yorkshire, but his influence spread right across the English-speaking world. This jihadi mastermind began his path to radicalisation aged just 12. He set up a social networking site, password-protected message forums and instant messaging to find, groom and recruit potential young jihadis.

Khan was in touch with young radicals in North America – one of whom was a 22-year-old college student from Atlanta, Georgia. Haris Ahmed dreamed of fighting violent jihad and wanted to train at a terrorist camp in Pakistan.

But Haris Ahmed soon moved beyond the virtual world; he went with a friend to Washington DC to record videos which they believed would curry favour with terrorists overseas.

Khan was also connected to a plot in Canada, where a 20-year-old college student had put in place plans to construct three enormous truck bombs. Zakaria Amara had also radicalised a young school friend and recruited him into his plot – it was to become the most complex and serious threat ever faced by Canada's security services.

Tinga Tinga Tales

Monday 15 to Friday 19 February
4.10-4.20pm CBEEBIES
Warthog and Lion's tale is told in this week's Tinga Tinga
Warthog and Lion's tale is told in this week's Tinga Tinga

Based on African folk tales and the Tinga Tinga art of Tanzania, this vibrant new series from the producer of the award-winning Charlie And Lola continues to bring to life some tall tales with big surprises, with voices from some of Britain's most illustrious stars.

On Monday young viewers can find out why Monkey swings from trees. There was a time when Monkey used to play on the ground and loved to wind up Crocodile. One day, the Big Rains came and Monkey became stranded up the Mango Tree. Nasty Crocodile promised to take him to dry land but only in exchange for one thing – his heart. Monkey tricked Crocodile and when Crocodile found out that Monkey swapped his heart for a mango, he chased Monkey up a tree. From that day on, Monkey swings in the trees, keeping well clear of angry snaps.

Tuesday's tall tale explains why Warthog Is So Ugly. There was a time when Warthog was really rather handsome – and boy, did he know it. He strutted around Tinga Tinga as if he owned the place. All the animals were fed up with Warthog's boasting and then, one day, Lion decided to give chase. Warthog ran head first into Porcupine's burrow and he was no longer the prettiest beast in Tinga Tinga.

Wednesday's adventure reveals why Rhino charges. There was a time when Rhino didn't charge and he couldn't see very well at all. Poor old Rhino really wanted to be invited to the Dance of the Horns up on the plains with Buffalo and all the other horned animals. But Rhino didn't have a horn, so he wasn't allowed. The Monkeys decide to help Rhino and make him a horn from a piece of old wood. But when Rhino woke up he didn't know what it was. "Aargh," he said. "Thing on the end of my nose! CHAAaarge!"

On Thursday, viewers can find out Why Jackal Howls at the moon. Jackal was a trickster and always wanted what was not rightfully his. Jackal took over Hen's nest and Aardvark's burrow and even took the cub's supper from Mama Cheetah! All the animals decided to teach Jackal a lesson and made him believe that the moon was made of the sweetest, most delicious honey in Tinga Tinga. Of course, Jackal instantly wanted some ... but it never came. From that day on Jackal has howled at the moon, waiting for another drop of delicious honey.

Friday's fable tells Why Frog Croaks. There was a time when Frog didn't croak. Frog sang like a bird ... and the birds didn't like it. Birds are the masters of song and that's the way it should be! So the birds trick poor old Frog into a singing duel – and sang and sang and sang ... until poor old Frog's voice was reduced to a "ribbit".
