2010 FIFA WORLD CUP
Match Of The Day Live – Slovenia v England

Live event/outside broadcastInteractive TVHigh Definition programme
Wednesday 23 June
2.15-5.30pm BBC ONE and BBC HD

Gary Lineker presents live coverage of England's final group C match, as they take on Slovenia in Port Elizabeth.

Slovenia is a nation of only 2 million people but they will not be underestimated by Fabio Capello's England, who were fortunate to beat them 2-1 at Wembley in a friendly last September.

The Slovenians vowed revenge after that game for the generous award of a penalty when Wayne Rooney was judged to have been fouled. With qualification for either side possibly resting on this game, tensions could run high.

Digital viewers can watch live coverage of the other potentially decisive Group C match between USA and Algeria by pressing the Red button on their remote controls (2.30-5pm). Dan Walker presents.

The USA do not have fond memories of this venue in Pretoria, where they lost to Italy and Brazil in last year's Confederations Cup prior to their improbable run to the final. Nonetheless, Bob Bradley's side will be expected to beat Algeria, who have never progressed beyond the group stage at a World Cup.

Match Of The Day Live is simulcast on the BBC HD channel – the BBC's High Definition channel, available through Freesat 108, Freeview 50, Sky 143 and Virgin 108.

Match Of The Day

Wednesday 23 June
11.15pm-12.15am BBC ONE

Match Of The Day features highlights and reaction from the day's final Group C matches, with England hoping to secure safe passage to the knockout stages.

Fabio Capello's side wanted top spot in the group to avoid a possible meeting with Germany in the next round, but they were unlikely to find it easy against a disciplined Slovenia led by West Brom midfielder Robert Koren.

Meanwhile Algeria played a USA team looking to emulate their success in South Africa last summer, when they reached the final of the Confederations Cup.

Other matches include the climax of Group D as Ghana meet Germany and Australia play Serbia.

1.45-2.15pm BBC ONE and BBC HD
5.30-6.00pm BBC ONE

Viewers can enjoy live coverage from the All England Club as the 2010 Championships at Wimbledon get into their stride.

As always, there's plenty of interest in how the British players fare – Andy Murray will dominate the headlines in the men's draw but Elena Baltacha could be one to watch in the women's, having enjoyed some terrific results so far this year.

From 10.30-11.30am, in Yesterday At Wimbledon on BBC Two, John Inverdale and studio guests reflect on Tuesday's action at Wimbledon.

From 1.40-2.15pm Sue Barker introduces live action from today's top matches at Wimbledon, on BBC One and BBC HD. The early rounds always throw up a couple of shocks and the big names will be hoping to avoid a premature exit from the tournament. Last year, former champion Maria Sharapova was knocked out in round two by Gisela Dulko of Argentina.

Sue is back from 5.30-6pm on BBC One from the All England Club in Wimbledon as the 2010 Championships continue apace. Roger Federer usually makes serene progress through the first week – in fact, the Swiss maestro has reached the last seven finals and will be looking for a record-equalling seventh title this year.

Finally from 8-9pm on BBC Two John Inverdale and guests reflect on what's been happening at the All England Club in Today At Wimbledon, including highlights from the major matches.

Wimbledon 2010 is simulcast on the BBC HD channel – the BBC's High Definition channel, available through Freesat 108, Freeview 50, Sky 143 and Virgin 108.

FATHERHOOD SEASON
Lennon Naked

High Definition programme
Wednesday 23 June
9.30-10.55pm BBC FOUR and BBC HD

Christopher Eccleston plays the iconic star in Lennon Naked
Christopher Eccleston plays the iconic star in Lennon Naked

Christopher Eccleston plays John Lennon in this single film which charts Lennon's transition from Beatle to enduring and enigmatic icon.

Writer Robert Jones articulates the burden of genius, as well as issues of fatherhood and fame – covering a period of Lennon's wildly fluctuating fortunes from 1967-71.

When The Beatles' manager Brian Epstein died unexpectedly in 1967, it was a turning point in John Lennon's life. The film focuses on the turbulent and intense period of change that followed, and how John was haunted by his troubled childhood.

Lennon Naked also reveals the impact of re-establishing contact with his long-lost father, and the events that led John to shed everything, both personally and creatively, including calling time on The Beatles.

Meeting Yoko Ono was the catalyst for this new era and the film explores the development of their extraordinary relationship, their growing disillusionment with Britain and what caused Lennon to abandon the UK to start a new life in America: a process which ultimately led Lennon to record arguably the most powerful solo work of his career.

Key cast members include Christopher Fairbank as Freddie Lennon, Naoko Mori as Yoko Ono, Claudie Blakley as Cynthia Lennon, Rory Kinnear as Brian Epstein, Allan Corduner at Art Janov, Michael Colgan as Derek Taylor and Andrew Scott as Paul McCartney.

Lennon Naked is part of a season of programmes encompassing documentary, science, drama and entertainment celebrating fatherhood in an historical and contemporary context.

Programmes include A Century Of Fatherhood, which charts the revolution in fatherhood in Britain. Through moving testimony from dads of all ages it provides a unique insight into 100 years of dramatic change. In The Biology Of Dads, child psychologist Laverne Antrobus investigates the psychology of families. Andrew Martin embarks on a light-hearted journey through three centuries of literary fatherhood in Disappearing Dad.

Lennon Naked is simulcast on the BBC HD channel – the BBC's High Definition channel, available through Freesat 108, Freeview 50, Sky 143 and Virgin 108.
