In a remarkable adventure stuffed full of culinary and visual treats, Giles Coren and Sue Perkins journey to revolutionary France. With Sue's waist cinched in by a corset, and a curly wig astride Giles's head, the Supersizers experience the lives of Marie-Antoinette and King Louis XVI.
Resplendent in their sprawling home, Vaux-le-Vicomte – the inspiration for Versailles – Giles and Sue devour a 5,000-calorie breakfast feast of lamb cutlets, roast capon, eggs in orange flower water, a leg of ham and three bottles of champagne prepared by famed French chef Mickael Weiss.
Giles tries the exotic new vegetable craze, the potato, and Sue samples the simple broth that formed Marie Antoinette's last meal prior to her guillotine execution. But as the Revolution breaks out, the pair follow in the footsteps of the King and Queen and flee Paris in a horse-drawn carriage.
The Supersizers also observe the advent of the restaurant – with no aristocracy to cook for, chefs fled the deserted palaces and chateaux in order to set up establishments in which to feed the new egalitarian France. Giles and Sue end the week honouring this new creation with a meal created by the world's first restaurant critic, Grimod de la Reyniere.
