Crimewatch Roadshow Ep 6/20

Live event/outside broadcast
Monday 8 to Friday 12 June
9.15-10.00am BBC ONE

South Wales is the destination for the second week of Crimewatch Roadshow, as presenters Sophie Raworth and Rav Wilding focus on everyday crimes that can affect everybody in the community.

The live programme sees Rav working with South Wales Police, as they go out and about in the community, focusing on crimes that have taken place in the area – with Sophie Raworth in the studio.

Over the course of the week, Crimewatch Roadshow looks at issues ranging from cannabis farms to the theft of a charity hall's supply of heating oil.

With appeals from all over the area, some of the cases featured include: the petrol thief who tried to run down security guards; the slashed tyres of 42 cars in a single town in a single night; and how a "distraction" burglary led to a pensioner with terminal cancer having her children's inheritance stolen.

Crimewatch Roadshow also looks at the problems of policing the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. It is the only stadium of its size in the whole country which is in the middle of a city – and which effectively doubles the population of Cardiff when full to capacity.

Working alongside BBC regional news teams, there are Crimewatch Roadshow campaign updates throughout the day, via the regional news bulletins.

The other force areas still to be visited by Crimewatch Roadshow are Northumbria Police and Hampshire Police.

DCI Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister) faces a heart-stopping showdown

When an informant is tortured and killed, DCI Gene Hunt is convinced that a major scam is about to happen and wants CID to fire on all cylinders to prevent it, as the Eighties police drama concludes.

It's not long before Gene's gut feeling is proved right, as he, DI Alex Drake, DS Ray Carling and DC Chris Skelton receive information that a gold bullion heist is about to take place – police officers are planning to intercept the robbers and steal the gold for themselves.

Gene knows this is his chance to try and put a stop to the corruption worming its way through the force. However, he needs to keep his eye on the ball if he wants to succeed.

Gene's head is turned by Jenette, an attractive woman whose uncomplicated nature and simple belief in him offers him everything that Alex can't. Jenette is in danger from those planning the heist and Gene is more than happy to personally ensure her safety.

Alex's increasingly strange behaviour, meanwhile, is making Gene nervous. He's not sure whose side Alex is on and this serious breakdown in their relationship is threatening to tear the whole team apart.

With more messages coming from "back home", Alex is terrified that her time in the future is running out and is desperate for Gene's help. However, the truth may be too big for Gene to comprehend.

Alex soon finds herself in serious danger and her relationship with Gene is put to the ultimate test in a heart-stopping showdown.

DCI Gene Hunt is played by Philip Glenister, DI Alex Drake by Keeley Hawes, DS Ray Carling by Dean Andrews, DC Chris Skelton by Marshall Lancaster and Jenette by Eva Birthistle.

Who's Watching You? Ep 3/3

Monday 8 June
9.00-10.00pm BBC TWO

Richard Bilton explores the hidden world of surveillance to find out why we are increasingly living in a surveillance society.

Richard Bilton speaks to leading figures from the shadowy world of secret intelligence to find out about modern surveillance and to see just how effective it is in tackling serious crime and terrorism, as he concludes his investigation into the hidden world of surveillance.

One intelligence insider tells Richard that "it's a constant arms race" between the state and criminals, as more advanced technology becomes available.

The government says the threat from terrorism is real and severe. The security services have expanded rapidly since the 7/7 London bombings and tonight's programme investigates how the government now wants to use civilians in the fight against terrorism.

It is not just terrorists who are viewed as a threat. Those who favour direct action, such as environmental groups, are also targeted by the police. But, as Richard finds out, they too have begun to employ elaborate anti-surveillance techniques.

Modern surveillance increasingly relies on computer databases. Like it or not, the details of everybody's lives are now stored on databases.

The UK now has a network of number plate-recognition cameras, one of the biggest DNA databases in the world and the government has plans for a super-database – logging all phone calls, emails and internet searches.

Richard talks to former insiders who question the government's argument that if one has nothing to hide, one has nothing to fear.
