Trevor Nelson presents another hour of the best in soulful music.
The Album Of The Week is George Duke's Brazilian Love Affair, one of his best-known albums from an illustrious career that has spanned five decades. Prior to releasing Brazilian Love Affair, Duke was known as a talented jazz pianist, before moving into pop and rising to fame within the R&B scene for hits such as Dukey Stick and Reach For It, as well as working with Frank Zappa.
This 1979 album saw Duke travel to Rio de Janeiro to collaborate with a number of local musicians and vocalists, resulting in a sound that mixed jazz and soul influences.
Other music featured tonight includes Patti Labelle's Lady Marmalade, Mary J Blige's Your Child, and Leon Haywood's I Wanna Do Something Freaky To You.

Composer Of The Week – Pachelbel Ep 3/5

Donald Macleod discovers how Johann Pachelbel came to be godfather to JS Bach's sister, as he continues to shed light on the largely-forgotten life of the composer behind one of the best known and best loved pieces in all classical music, Canon.
Pachelbel's first posts in Eisenach and Erfurt made it almost inevitable that he would encounter the vast Bach clan which provided town musicians to many places in central Germany. Donald concentrates on the composer's friendship with Ambrosius Bach, father of Johann Sebastian. As a friend of Ambrosius and teacher of Sebastian's brother and later guardian, Johann Christoph, Pachelbel ensured that his musical legacy would live on long after his own music was forgotten.

BBC Radio 4's oral history series returns for a new run, revisiting events that were big news at the time but which have subsequently faded from public consciousness.
In the first of the new series, Jolyon Jenkins investigates how, in the mid-Sixties, Dutch elm disease infected England, leaving barely a single elm tree in its wake. Previously unpublished archive material reveals that members of the public were well aware of the problem and were demanding official action long before the Government or Forestry Commission accepted that they had a crisis on their hands. By the time action was taken, it was far too late. Jolyon asks why an environmental disaster of such magnitude was allowed to happen, whether it could have been avoided and whether the Government has learnt its lessons.
Other programmes in the series take a look back at the battles between archaeologists and metal detector enthusiasts in the Seventies, and the setting up of Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) half a century ago.

In 1185, William Palmer was making a pilgrimage to Canterbury. Unknown to him, his fellow pilgrim was the Lord of Faerie. When William claimed that the Church would wipe out all the old superstitions of the faerie world, he was cursed by the Faerie Lord and condemned to walk for ever between his own world (the Hotbloods) and that of the faeries (the Greyfolk).
Pilgrim is an immortal adventurer. He has been the same age for almost a thousand years. Despite his curse, he has become devoted to humanity and it is his unending quest to strike a balance between the worlds of the humans and the Greyfolk and to prevent them from coming into conflict.
Pilgrim is written by Sebastian Baczkiewicz, whose other plays for radio include The Employee, The Language Of Angels and dramatisations of Stalingrad Kiss and Les Miserables. In addition to his work for radio, Sebastian is also a lead writer on BBC One's medical drama, Holby City.
The cast includes Paul Hilton, Jamie Foreman, Anna Wing, David Calder, Adrian Lukis and Paul Rider.
