Steve Wright previews BBC Radio 2's Life2Live 70, Not Out! campaign in this afternoon's show.
For the first time, Britain is now home to more pensioners than children.
The campaign launches on Monday 29 September and looks at the many issues affecting the elderly. It also celebrates their contribution.
Steve is joined by one of this team – "the Old Woman" - who has been out and about in Eastbourne talking to pensioners about their lives.
Radio 2 is also inviting listeners to contribute to the website, asking them to talk to an elderly relative or friend and discover "the memory which can't be taken to the grave", and post that memory online at bbc.co.uk/radio2.
More information on Radio 2's Life2Live 70, Not Out! campaign and issues concerning the elderly can be found online at bbc.co.uk/radio2. Listeners can also phone the helpline on 0800 022 022 (freephone from landlines). The 70, Not Out! website launches on 15 September.

Gianandrea Noseda conducts the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra
The launch of the BBC Philharmonic's 2008/9 season at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester is broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, and neatly juxtaposes old and new.
Beethoven's Ninth "Choral" Symphony is the season's curtain-raiser, heard here just two weeks after Gianandrea Noseda and the Orchestra performed it on the penultimate night at the BBC Proms. They are joined by the City of Birmingham Symphony Chorus and a formidable team of singers including Hillevi Martinpelto, Jane Irwin, Paul Nilon and Iain Paterson.
Luciano Berio, composing 160 years after Beethoven's revolutionary Ninth Symphony, transformed the traditional layout of the Orchestra by separating instrumental groups and creating new musical spaces for exploration. Noseda here conducts his iconic Formazioni (composed in 1987), which plays with orchestral sound and texture in a multifaceted and unprecedented way, as part of the BBC Philharmonic's Neglected Genius strand.

In the UK, money transfer shops are doing a roaring trade. Alkarim Jivani investigates the economics and the human stories behind the global money flows. He finds out how the system operates, why business is booming, and how, in the near future, mobile telephony and the internet could transform the industry and increase the already substantial sums moving around the world (the World Bank puts the global remittance market at US$268b).
Alkarim finds out why people send money home and how crucial their remittances are to the lives of the recipients and the countries that they live in. According to a recent report to the UK Remittances Task Force, the UK remittance market is estimated to amount to some £3b of outbound payments per year, all passing through a network of thousands of money transfer operators. But who runs these businesses, who uses them and what happens to the money? Follow The Money traces the process and asks what safeguards have been put in place to protect against money laundering.
Alkarim was a senior editor at Time Out and is a frequent contributor to Front Row, Night Waves and Newsnight Review. He is the author of two books: It's Not Unusual: A History Of Gay Men And Lesbians In The 20th Century and Classic TV.

Illusionist Caesar Price has reproduced nearly all of the miracles of Jesus and built a massive cult following, but is he prepared for what will happen when he decides to stage the Crucifixion?
In a near-future London, society is in distress in this Afternoon Play, written by Fin Kennedy. In the midst of climate chaos, people are seeking solace in the promises of new strains of religion. Illusionist Caesar Price has already walked on water; turned water into wine; resurrected people from the dead; and fed thousands from one tin of sardines. A media frenzy surrounds him. His manager announces that his next "miracle" will be the greatest yet: the Crucifixion and eventual Resurrection. This "miracle" will launch a new TV channel, but is Caesar merely an illusionist or is there something more?
Lee Ingleby plays Caesar Price with Emma Cunniffe as Lois, Carla Henry as Judy and David Fleeshman as Barry. The cast also includes Conrad Nelson, Joanne Mitchell, Rob Pickavance and Aidan Parsons.
Fin Kennedy won the John Whiting Award with his stage play How To Disappear Completely And Never Be Found. His first play, Protection, was produced by the Soho Theatre. Other plays include Edinburgh Festival Mehndi Night, written with Bangladeshi girls from Tower Hamlets, and We Are Shadows. He is currently writing a new Jacobean tragedy for the Battersea Arts Centre and Liquid Theatre.

Bruce Dickinson invites Swedish rockers Backyard Babies on to the show.
With over 20 years in the industry the BYBs are one of Scandinavia's best exports. Renowned for their unbridled punk-influenced hard rock 'n' roll, they have recently recorded their sixth album with producer Jacob Hellner, who has previously worked with the likes of Rammstein and Apocalyptica.
Having recently played dates in the UK as part of their European tour, the show catches up with them to discuss the new self-titled record, staying true to their musical ideas rather than following fads and the state of the current rock scene.
