Ken Bruce presents this week's Friday Night Is Music Night live from the Opera House in Blackpool as part of the celebrations for National Veterans Day.
The BBC Concert Orchestra is conducted by Roderick Dunk in a selection of popular classics with special guest singers Alfie Boe and Rebecca Thornhill.
National Veterans Day is designed to thank today's generation of ex-servicemen and women for their service to their country. Former soldiers, air crews and sailors are presented with medals at local events on National Veterans Day.
The aim of the event is to ensure the contribution of veterans was "never forgotten". The date 27 June was chosen as it comes the day after the anniversary of the first investiture of the Victoria Cross, which happened in Hyde Park, London, in 1857.
Alfred Giovanni Roncalli Boe was born 33 years ago in Blackpool, and brought up in nearby Fleetwood, the youngest of nine children. Little did Alfie's parents know that the baby of the family would grow up to be one of the finest British tenors of his generation. Later in 2008, Boe returns to the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden to perform in Elektra and, at the end of the year, he makes his Carnegie Hall debut.
Rebecca Thornhill has appeared in a host of West End musicals, including Mary Poppins, Les Miserables, Showboat, Chicago, Cats and Me And My Girl.

Alyn Shipton is joined by US jazz saxophonist and composer Tim Berne to select highlights of his career, recorded after his recent performance with his current band Science Friction at this year's Cheltenham Jazz Festival.
Angry, jagged, startling, chaotic, calm, beautiful – all these adjectives can spring to mind during a single Berne performance. Initially inspired by the openness of the Chicagoan AACM (Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians) players, and by his teacher Julius Hemphill, Berne has forged an individual path through contemporary jazz. Alyn has known Berne since they worked together on a broadcast of Hemphill's music in the early Nineties, so he is particularly familiar with Tim's bands. Consequently, this is a joint exploration of one of the most unorthodox and challenging collections of recordings featured on Jazz Library.
Alyn Shipton has recently been nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award in Jazz Journalism by the Jazz Journalist Association Awards in the USA.

Karen Sharp is a genealogist who finds herself in danger when she uncovers a shocking family history, in this debut radio play by acclaimed crime novelist Cath Staincliffe.
Karen starts work with a huge hangover, swilling coffee and guzzling painkillers. She cannot recall much from the previous night, and can't even remember the man she was with.
Her first telephone call is from a client, Patrick Breen, who fears there is a scandal in his family because his father, Ted, has tried to burn all the family papers. Now, only a few scraps remain, and Patrick needs help to make sense of them, and he wants to know why his father tried to destroy them in the first place.
The second call, from a woman responding to an appeal in the paper about an abandoned baby 35 years earlier, knocks Karen sideways as she is forced to confront her own fears.
Karen embarks on a journey into the past, uncovering family secrets and an American connection that leads to a sinister and shocking discovery about Patrick. Now she questions whether the past should have been left alone...
Look Sharp stars Suranne Jones as Karen, Jeff Hordley at Patrick and David Hargreaves at Ted.
