Lawrence In New Mexico

Thursday 3 November
11.30am-12.00noon BBC RADIO 4

Geoff Dyer visits DH Lawrence's ranch in Taos, New Mexico – his only true "home" – where in the Twenties the author penned some of his most brilliant writings on landscape and nature.

For author and Lawrence devotee Geoff, this little-investigated corner of the American Southwest is where his hero wrote his greatest work. Geoff believes the themes of these writings will remain relevant long after Women In Love, Sons And Lovers and Lady Chatterley's once-revolutionary social and sexual mores drift slowly into anachronism.

Geoff returns to a place that first stole his own creative heart more than a decade ago to make a passionate plea for the "unknown Lawrence". He wants to replace the image of the fey, nervous, English novelist with his anxieties about sex, class and gender; with that of a creative spirit finally at home in the rugged American deserts and mountains joyously penning some of the finest travel and nature writing of the 20th century.

Listen Against Ep 1/4

New series
Thursday 3 November
6.30-7.00pm BBC RADIO 4

Listen Against is the comedy that takes the back off the radio and television, fiddles round with the programmes inside and then puts them all back the wrong way round.

Using mash-ups of current and archive programmes, Listen Against creates a satirical world where Alice Arnold and Jon Holmes look back in amplitude at a week's worth of broadcasting. Like a media tapeworm going through a dog.

Fictional listeners bombard Listen Against with fictional letters and emails complaining about half-fictional programmes while fictional guests and real-life presenters – who this series include Melvyn Bragg, Jeremy Vine and Vanessa Feltz – argue with each other.

Written and created by Jon Holmes, the series also stars: Kevin Eldon, Justin Edwards, Sarah Hadland, James Bachman, Kim Wall and David Mara.
