Listeners can rise and shine to the dulcet tones of Adil Ray this Monday morning, as he kick-starts the BBC Asian Network's new schedule for 2009 with the station's breakfast show.

Adil brings his own award-winning style of irreverent humour and charm to the new show, which features a mix of his spontaneous humour, chat and gossip, and introduces a range of comedic characters coupled with the best in Bollywood beats and British Asian music – making a lively way to get listeners revved up for the day.

Other changes to the schedule include a new role for Jas Rao, who presents the Drive show in a new weekday timeslot of 3-6pm. Gagan Grewal, whose Hindi/Urdu show combines news, discussion and celebrity interviews, begins an extended show from 6.30-8.00pm every weekday.

The Wrap news show, presented by Rozina Sini, has two slots in the new schedule, from 12-12.30pm and 6-6.30pm, and features all the news, sport and entertainment from across Asian Britain and the world.

Andy Parfitt, Controller Asian Network, said: "I am delighted that Adil will present breakfast. Overall, this is an important step in the Asian Network's development. We're also extending our news and daily language output, in addition to making these key presenter changes."

Adil joined the Asian Network in 2002, presenting the daily Adil Ray Show between 3-7pm. Adil created a number of comedy characters and spoofs, making refreshing listening for Asian radio, and his unique brand of humour gained him many plaudits across radio and TV – including his Drive show, which won the award for best Radio Show at the UK Asian Music Awards (AMAs) in 2008.

The Adil Ray Show has been a great a platform to showcase young Asian artists such as Jay Sean – who has since been nominated for a Mobo award and gone on to international chart success. Adil has also hosted live music showcases and events around the country, including the flagship station events such as the London Mela, Newham Under The Stars and the Asian Network Uni Tour, which played to packed houses – culminating in a massive gig at the Ministry of Sound in London in December.

Listeners can enjoy the new schedule including Breakfast With Adil Ray, The Wrap, Drive and Gagan Grewal, from Monday 5 January 2009.
