BBC North has awarded a contract for part of its in-building operational media services to The Farm Group following a competitive procurement process which was started in July 2010. The value of the contract to deliver these services is approximately £10m for a contracted term of 3 years.
The BBC will have over 50 edit desks, booths and suites across its three buildings at MediaCityUK. These edit facilities will be operated by a mix of production and craft staff on behalf of a wide range of departments including Sport, Children's, Entertainment, Religion and Current Affairs. It will also have presentational spaces for live Sports broadcast, and a multiplatform Sports area with an associated production system.
The Farm demonstrated the necessary understanding of delivering flexible commodity based production systems, including modern media asset management, with an effective staffing model and talent provision.
The BBC begins moving 2,300 posts to Salford Quays in May 2011 with all staff on-site by April 2011. The project is on time and in budget.
