BBC Drama Controller Ben Stephenson has confirmed the recommission of Accused for four further episodes. Written by Jimmy McGovern, the series will air in 2012.
Each episode of Accused focuses on an ordinary person who ends up in court. As the multi-layered story unravels, viewers discover the chain of events which led to the defendant being in the dock and whether their future lies back home or behind bars.
Ben Stephenson said: "Many factors go into the process of recommissioning on BBC One and although the first series rated modestly we feel it has potential to find a broader audience. We are truly excited by Jimmy, Sita and Roxy's vision of how the second series will build on the creative success of the first."
BBC One Controller Danny Cohen added: "Jimmy McGovern brings extraordinary authorship, heart-rending narratives, and complex characters to BBC One, and so we're delighted to commission a second series."
