Huw Edwards to anchor BBC coverage of Royal Wedding

The BBC has today confirmed that Huw Edwards will be the anchor for the BBC's coverage of next year's Royal Wedding.

Edwards will lead a diverse range of presenters across the BBC's television and radio networks. Details of the BBC's broadcasting plans, including the full presenting line-up, will be revealed early in the new year.

Commenting on the news of his appointment, Edwards said: "I am delighted with the news and consider it a great honour to play a part in what I am sure will be a huge national celebration."

In recent years Edwards has been the BBC's anchor for major state occasions such as 2004's D-Day 60th anniversary, the Pope's visit, Trooping the Colour, the State Opening of Parliament, Festival of Remembrance and the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics and Commonwealth Games.

Mark Byford, Deputy Director-General and Chair, Royal Wedding Steering Group, said: "I'm delighted that Huw Edwards will be anchoring the BBC's television coverage of the Royal Wedding on 29 April.

"Huw's professionalism, warmth and presence will be a real asset in ensuring we offer a high-quality distinctive broadcast on the big day."
