The BBC today announces that Lulu and Amy Macdonald will be performing alongside Neil Diamond on the final night of this year's star-studded BBC Radio 2 Electric Proms.
Closing a week of unique moments in music created by superstars Elton John and Robert Plant, Neil Diamond will be joined on stage by Lulu. A much-loved formidable musical figure, whose career continues to evolve, Lulu has enjoyed success with hits including To Sir With Love, Shout, Relight My Fire with Take That and Eurovision entry Boom Bang-A-Bang.
Lulu said: "Neil Diamond has such an incredible body of work that this show will be amazing. I'm absolutely thrilled to be a part of it."
Talented Scottish singer-songwriter Amy Macdonald will take a break from her current Love Love UK tour to perform at the Radio 2 Electric Proms, following a personal invitation from Neil Diamond.
Amy commented: "To be able to perform on the same stage as Neil Diamond is an amazing honour for me. I listened to his music growing up and his hits are legendary. It will probably feel like a dream and quite nerve-racking to be on the same stage!"
Neil Diamond's Electric Proms performance will be broadcast on Radio 2 from 8-10pm on Saturday 30 October, presented by Jo Whiley. Listeners who tune in the Radio 2 website will enjoy the performance in HD Sound with extra high quality audio streaming for listening live online.
From 10pm-12midnight, Radio 2 listeners will be treated to Radio 2's Electric Proms Aftershow, with Bob Harris, who will reflect on the three stunning performances with interviews with the artists as well as backstage gossip and interviews.
On Saturday 13 November, A Night With Neil Diamond on BBC Two will broadcast his Electric Proms performance together with a new, exclusive documentary entitled Neil Diamond – Solitary Man. The documentary, filmed in New York and LA, will chart his career successes from his heyday in the Seventies through to his landmark performance at Glastonbury in 2008 and today.
Now celebrating its fifth birthday, the Electric Proms was designed by the BBC to create new moments in music by inviting legendary artists to present one-off collaborations and performances. Past artists who have performed include Sir Paul McCartney featuring a rendition of Eleanor Rigby, with a string quartet; Dame Shirley Bassey with guest appearances by James Dean Bradfield and Richard Hawley; Burt Bacharach with a guest appearance by Jamie Cullum; Oasis with the Crouch End Festival Chorus; and Mark Ronson with guests including Terry Hall and Sean Lennon.
Now one of the UK's most eagerly-anticipated live music festivals, Radio 2 is producing the festival for the first time. There will also be an online memorabilia exhibition dedicated to each act which can be further enjoyed at the Roundhouse later this week.
The final line up for the 2010 Radio 2 Electric Proms is now confirmed as follows:
Thursday 28 October – Sir Elton John with Leon Russell, Rumer and Plan B
