BBC One commissions comedy show pilot starring Liverpudlian comedian and rising star John Bishop

BBC One has commissioned Liverpudlian comedian John Bishop to front a new show – John Bishop's Britain. The pilot, which will be filmed in front of a live audience, will see the star presenting viewers with a mix of stand-up, sketches and real-life stories from members of the Great British public.

In the show, John will perform a stand-up set based on a specific theme, such as parenthood and family. He will listen to what the public has to say on the same topic and will also be out and about meeting celebrity guests and hearing from them on a wide range of subjects.

The combination of John Bishop's ability to keep the laughs coming with his unique brand of observational humour, his undeniable charm and gift of creating a relaxed atmosphere are unrivalled and the feel-good factor of spending an evening in his company is absolutely priceless.

His domestic observations, his family life, his passions and his problems will all be under the spotlight in this jam-packed, laugh-a-minute show.

John Bishop said: "It's a great honour that the BBC has put faith in me for this pilot and it's an opportunity that I am extremely excited about.

"There is a rumour that having a Scouser on BBC One on a Saturday night means they get a grant but I am sure that's not the reason they are doing the show ... is it?"

Karl Warner, commissioning executive at the BBC, said: "John is one of the most exciting stand-ups in the country and we're thrilled to be working with him on his first solo project, helping to ensure that BBC One continues to deliver the very best comedy entertainment to its audiences."

John Bishop's Britain was commissioned by Jay Hunt, Controller, BBC One and Mark Linsey, Controller, Entertainment Commissioning, and is an Objective production.

Executive producers for Objective are Derek McLean and Lee Hupfield and the show will be series produced by Karen Murdoch. The BBC commissioning executive is Karl Warner.
