James Stephenson appointed Editor of BBC One's Six and Ten bulletins

James Stephenson

James Stephenson has been appointed Editor of the BBC News bulletins at Six and Ten O'Clock on BBC One.

He was Deputy Editor of Newsnight before launching The Politics Show in 2003.

He edited the 2005 Election Night programme and was Executive Editor of Question Time before moving to Newsgathering in 2007.

He is currently the Middle East Bureau Editor based in Jerusalem where he has been in charge of BBC coverage of the conflict in Gaza, the Israeli election and the crisis in Iran.

He will start his new job at the end of August 2009.

James Stephenson takes up the post from Craig Oliver, who leaves to become Deputy Head of the Newsroom.
