Kid British top bill for BBC Manchester Introducing

Ska-indie Mancunians Kid British have been announced as the headliners for the next BBC Manchester Introducing night.

The four piece, who are about to release their debut album, It Was This Or Football, will take top billing at the show at Manchester's Ruby Lounge on Friday (26 June).

The gig is the second night put on by the BBC Manchester Introducing team.

The debut show, held at the same venue in May, featured Airship, Light Syndicate and The Tombots.

Hailing from Burnage and Parrs Wood, Kid British have been attracting attention since the release of their debut single, Elizabeth, in October 2008, and their latest offering, Our House Is Dadless, has been Scott Mills' Record of the Week on BBC Radio 1.

Band-member James Mayer said: "To play Manchester Introducing Live is wicked for us – first, because it's in Manchester obviously, second, because we buzz off playing live, and third, because BBC Manchester have shown us support from the word go and we're always happy to work with or alongside them."

Chris Long, BBC Manchester Introducing producer, said: "It's really exciting to get a band as brilliant and as fun as Kid British to headline the show.

"When you take into account the fact that, the following day, the band will be playing down at Glastonbury then getting the chance to see them in an intimate setting is just amazing – especially as it's free!"

Kid British will be supported at the show by two other local acts, The Christophers and The Cordels.

There will be no further admission when the venue reaches capacity so please arrive early to avoid disappointment.

BBC Manchester Introducing Live is at the Ruby Lounge on High Street on Friday 26 June 2009. Doors open at 8.00pm and entry is free.

All the sets will be recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio Manchester Introducing.
