The BBC Electric Proms today launched New Music Shorts 2009 - an initiative offering aspiring filmmakers a £5,000 budget to make a music-based short film with a professional production company and have it premiered at the Electric Proms festival in October.
Announced today on Nemone's BBC 6 Music show, budding filmmakers are invited to visit bbc.co.uk/electricproms and listen to two tracks by rising stars – Dog Days by Florence & The Machine and On Dancefloors by Metronomy.
Ideas for shorts should be inspired by these tracks and two ideas will be commissioned this year.
The closing date for entries is Thursday 18 June 2009.
The idea for the New Music Short could be anything from a music promo to a drama or documentary.
The filmmakers with the most innovative ideas will receive up to £5,000 to make their film under guidance from award-winning commissioner John Hassay at music video production company Colonel Blimp.
This year the initiative is running in partnership with 6 Music and the winning films will be premiered alongside performances by Florence & The Machine and Metronomy at the Electric Proms this October.
BBC Electric Proms Festival Director Lorna Clarke said: "This is the fourth year of supporting young filmmakers at the Electric Proms and previous years have seen some real talent emerge.
"We're delighted to be working so closely with 6 Music on this initiative which really meshes new music and film together, bringing a different take on musical innovation to the festival."
