The BBC issued the following statement this afternoon.
"Following discussions last night and today between the BBC and the Trades Unions, it has been agreed that talks will continue over the coming weeks to resolve the dispute in the South Asia Services.
"In the light of these talks, the industrial action planned for the 3rd and 9th of April has been cancelled.
"The BBC confirmed that in this instance, regarding the South Asia dispute, it expects that it can deal with the individuals involved through a combination of voluntary severance and redeployment such that there would not be a need for compulsory redundancies.
"However, the BBC reiterated its position that it cannot guarantee that there will be no compulsory redundancies in the future. The BBC said it would continue to make every effort to find solutions through voluntary redundancy and redeployment."
