Brand new Egghead joins champion quiz team on BBC Two
|
Fifty-nine-year-old Barry Simmons from Leeds has been crowned the winner of BBC Two's Are You An Egghead?
Barry, whose previous quiz credentials include winning £64,000 on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and as a semi-finalist on Mastermind, has also represented England at quizzing and is a self-confessed quiz aficionado.
Are You An Egghead? was a nationwide search for a member of the British public fit to become a new Egghead on BBC Two's popular tea time quiz show.
Barry will be joining the ultimate quiz team in the country and will take his seat alongside quiz legends Kevin Ashman, C.J. De Mooi, Daphne Fowler, Chris Hughes and Judith Keppel.
On winning the series, Barry says: "Other than my wedding day and the birth of my two wonderful children, it was simply the happiest day of my life. I couldn't believe that I had won such a challenging competition against such a strong field."
Host Dermot Murnaghan says: "This has been a fantastic series and I am delighted that Barry won. It certainly wasn't easy for him though as some of the best brains in Britain were involved, but he is a worthy winner and I am looking forward to seeing Barry join our esteemed panel of intellectual goliaths on Eggheads."
Barry joins the other Eggheads for the very first time later today (Tuesday 2 December) at 6.00pm on BBC Two.
