Tartan Togs for BBC Scotland's Children in Need presenters Hardeep, Jackie and Des
Pictures were today released of BBC Scotland's Children in Need presenters Hardeep Singh Kohli, Jackie Bird and Des Clarke showcasing outfits which have been made from a brand new specially designed BBC Children in Need appeal tartan.
The tartan, which was designed by Ruth Walker, a Senior Lecturer in Woven Textile Design at the School of Textiles and Design at Heriot-Watt University in Galashiels, has been produced and made into garments by nearby mill Lochcarron of Scotland in time to be worn on Friday's appeal show.
The three presenters met yesterday in BBC Scotland's Pacific Quay building in Glasgow for a first look at their outfits, and were delighted with their new clothes.
Sporting her mini kilt, Jackie Bird said: "This is certainly a different look for me, and I just love it. The tartan's based on the colours of Pudsey so thankfully there will no danger of me clashing with the star of the show on Friday night."
Des Clarke, wearing a tartan tam, added: "I also love my new look – the tam's great and by Friday I'll also have a matching waistcoat. Beyond the appeal show, I'm definitely going to sport both items out on the town on Saturday night!"
Modelling his specially made kilt and turban, Hardeep Singh Kohli urged: "If we don’t raise lots of money for Children in Need on Friday, I'll be raising my kilt. Dig deep says Hardeep – you have been warned!"
The Children in Need appeal tartan also appears on the artwork for the 2008 version of B.A. Robertson's hit single We Have A Dream.
First recorded by B.A. and the Scotland World Cup Squad of 1982, a special new version of the song featuring the Tartan Army was released earlier this week on Monday 10 November in aid of this year's Children in Need appeal, complete with the voices of a plethora of big name celebrities including Samuel L. Jackson, Dougray Scott, Ashley Jensen, Billy Boyd and Edith Bowman.
Fraser Falconer, Head of BBC Children in Need, Scotland, said: "We are delighted to have our very own Children In Need tartan and think it looks fantastic. Its look really reflects the nature of the appeal and Ruth and her colleagues at Heriot-Watt have done a superb job.
"We're also extremely grateful to everyone at Lochcarron, and couldn't be happier with the finished garments. Having our own appeal tartan brings home the important message that Children in Need greatly improves the lives of so many disadvantaged children and young people right here in Scotland.
"We hope that the nation will dig deep in support of this year’s appeal."
Hardeep, Jackie and Des host a packed evening of music, comedy and entertainment on Friday 14 November from 7.00pm on BBC One Scotland.
Note to Editors
