BBC Three sets ultimate challenge to discover who's Chicken

A team of young men are set to take the ultimate road trip challenge for BBC Three… unless they Chicken out of it!

The young Brits think they've got it made: four months on the road with no responsibilities. All they have to do is to travel the world having fun. But there's a catch…

Our group of intrepid adventurers must contend with being thrown into the deep end of the scariest real-life jobs on the planet – jobs that will ask them to tackle some of the most fearsome tests that nature can throw at them – from hand feeding sharks to collecting venom from deadly snakes.

In each task, they'll have to conquer their fears and gain the respect of the locals and fellow workers, by proving their worth in some of the most extraordinary locations on the planet.

They'll be confronting natural forces where workers are coping with an extraordinary extreme environment, which can kill.

Our young men are full of confidence... but on this journey they will find out things about the world and about themselves that they never knew before.

This is an initiation into a man's world… on every continent.

Nick Shearman, Commissioning Editor, In-house, BBC Knowledge, says: "It's a global journey in which men will be confronting the natural world at its most raw.

"At every stage they'll be advised when they've reached their limit but ultimately it's their decision whether they should continue.

"They'll have to learn to depend on each other because they'll be together 24/7, living hard and playing hard.

"As such, Chicken is an absolutely authentic journey – a rite of passage for those involved."

The eight-part series of 60-minute programmes was commissioned by Nick Shearman and BBC Three Controller Danny Cohen; the Executive Producer is Gary Hunter (Last Man Standing) for BBC Vision Productions.

The series will transmit in late 2009.

Notes to Editors

The show follows in the footsteps of other successful knowledge commissions this year, including the critically acclaimed Blood, Sweat And T-shirts; Young Mum's Mansion; The Beauty Season; Britain's Next Top Model and Last Man Standing which returns for a second series this Autumn.

Factual has been a big success story for BBC Three. The channel aims to make young-skewing engaging factual content that is relevant to the lives of young British people.

BBC Three was named Best Non Terrestrial Channel of the Year at the Edinburgh International Television Festival.
