New Radio 1 shows for Nick Grimshaw and Nihal

BBC Radio 1 announced today changes to the station's weekend schedule.

From September, Nihal will present the Saturday and Sunday afternoon show (1.00-4.00pm) while Nick Grimshaw takes on the weekend breakfast show (Saturday and Sunday, 7.00-10.00am).

Sara Cox and Edith Bowman both make a welcome return to Radio 1 in September, following their maternity leave.

Sara will cover Jo Whiley's show (Monday-Friday, 10.00am-1.00pm) during Jo's maternity leave and from the new year host Sunday mornings (10.00am-1.00pm).

Edith presents the Sunday morning show in September and October and returns to her regular weekday slot (Monday-Friday, 1.00-4.00pm) in November.

Chappers and Dave will host Sunday mornings in November and December.

Dick and Dom, who have hosted Sundays (10.00am-1.00pm) for the past year, will leave the station in September to pursue other projects.

Nihal said: "I've loved doing the weekend breakfast show, and now in under a year I've been given another amazing opportunity to speak to a whole new audience whilst hoping that the breakfast listeners come and check me out in the afternoons too.

"One problem is that I'm going to get flak about the football live while I'm on air."

Nick Grimshaw said: "This is a great opportunity. I am really excited. I've always loved breakfast radio so it will be great to give the Radio 1 listeners my own weekend wake-up!"

Edith Bowman said: "What a great return to Radio 1 to be sandwiched in between Grimmy and Nihal for a couple of months! Am really looking forward to November too when I am back to my regular show."

Ben Cooper, Head of Programmes, Radio 1, said: "Nihal and Nick Grimshaw have already proved themselves in their current slots and I'm really excited about what they can achieve with their new shows.

"It'll be great to have Sara and Edith back in the Radio 1 family and I'd like to thank Annie Mac and all the other Radio 1 presenters who have done a brilliant job covering their shows while they were away.

"We are also saying goodbye to Dick and Dom and I want to wish them all the very best and say thanks for their work at Radio 1."

Notes to Editors

Annie Mac returns to host the Switch show (Sunday, 7.00-10.00pm) with Nick Grimshaw from September having covered Sara Cox's maternity leave.

Annie continues to host Annie Mac's Mash Up (Friday, 9.00-11.00pm).
