Lauren Laverne joins 6 Music

New summer schedule to start in June

From June 2008, BBC 6 Music welcomes a new presenter and refreshes its evening schedule.

Lauren Laverne is to host a new weekly Saturday show for 6 Music from 7 June, from 4.00 to 6.00pm.

Lauren, who has previously deputised on the station, is excited to become a permanent member of the team.

She says: "What a thrill to be welcomed into the 6 Music family! I can't wait to get started on my Saturday shift, tickling cochleae in beer gardens, bathrooms and beyond.

"We promise to bring you only the very best music, while wearing consistently excellent shoes."

Lesley Douglas, Controller, 6 Music, says: "I am delighted that Lauren has agreed to join 6 Music. She combines a love of music with real wit, making her a perfect and engaging listen."

Marc Riley sees his show expand to four days a week from Monday 2 June. Listeners can hear Marc from Monday to Thursday, 7.00 to 9.00pm.

6 Music colleague and self-proclaimed "duffer" Gideon Coe gets an early night as his show moves to a new 9.00pm to midnight slot, every Monday to Thursday.

Tom Robinson moves to Friday nights between 7.00 and 9.00pm and extends his BBC Introducing show to two nights a week, from Saturday midnight to 2.00am on Sunday mornings and on Mondays from 1.00 to 3.00am.

Lesley Douglas says: "The new schedule simplifies and strengthens 6 Music's evening programming and continues to keep music firmly at its heart."

BBC 6 Music is a digital radio station available on DAB digital radio, digital television and online at bbc.co.uk/6music.
