BBC News May 2008 Election coverage
|
BBC News will present comprehensive coverage of the May 2008
elections as councillors all over England and Wales battle it out
in the local council elections and Londoners decide who will be their
next Mayor.
It is the first set of elections since the BBC's new multi-media
newsroom emerged.
Throughout the campaign, and as the results come
in, journalists on television, radio and online will be working
together to deliver the latest news, comment and analysis.
On Election Night (Thursday 1 May, BBC One and BBC News, 11.35pm-3.30am), David Dimbleby leads the BBC team reporting live as the local
election results come in, with instant reaction from the winners and
losers.
Jeremy Vine, with his virtual reality graphics, analyses
the figures and Nick Robinson and Professor Tony King from the
University of Essex will be giving their insights into the
political implications.
Emily Maitlis will be leading a team of
political bloggers, scouring the web for the latest comment and
gossip, and giving their thoughts on line throughout the night.
She will also be joined by a host of pundits, celebrities and
political journalists at London's City Hall, where all eyes will
be looking ahead to the London Mayoral results that come in later in
the day.
The BBC's Political Editors from the Nations and Regions
will tell the local story from the key battlegrounds across
England and Wales.
Jim Naughtie and Carolyn Quinn will present BBC Radio 4's Election
Night with analysis from Nottingham University's Phil Cowley.
The
focus will be on reporting on the story with reporters around
England and Wales and interviews with leading politicians.
The
newsreader will be Peter Donaldson.
Radio 4's election night
special will start at midnight and broadcast to 3.00am.
Richard Bacon and Dotun Adebayo will co-present BBC Radio 5 Live's
Election Night special.
Richard and his guests will broadcast from
the BBC's Westminster studios. Dotun will present from TV News
Centre.
Richard will have a panel of invited guests and political
pundits. Dotun will anchor the coverage of the reporters at
locations across the country.
The 5 Live programme will be on
air from 10.00pm to 5.00am.
Viewers of the BBC One results
programme will be able to tune into the 5 Live coverage if they
press the red button.
The BBC News website will feature a live results service, with
interactive maps giving the result for every council election in
England and Wales, and voting for the London Assembly and Mayor.
Users will be able to find detailed results from their area with a
postcode search, and a full results service will also be carried on
interactive television and Ceefax.
All of this together with latest
news, analysis and background resources will be available at
bbc.co.uk/elections.
