Gethin Jones joins 5 Live
|
Gethin Jones, the Blue Peter presenter and lately Strictly Come
Dancing star, joins BBC Radio 5 Live in July.
The Gethin Jones Show kicks off on Saturday 5 July 2008, running for two
months.
The weekly show will delve into the great summer of sport, music and
culture that lies ahead, and reflect Gethin's own interests in
entertainment and sport as a former rugby player for Lancashire.
Gethin leaves Blue Peter at the end of the current series in June.
Initially the broadcast time of his 5 Live show will be 9.00am to noon.
This will
then alter slightly in August to fit around 5 Live's extensive
coverage of the Beijing Olympics.
Adrian Van Klaveren, the new Controller of Radio 5 Live, takes up his position today.
He said: "I'm really excited that Gethin
is joining the 5 Live team.
"He'll be a fresh new voice to capture
the spirit of summer and his show will fit in perfectly with the
rest of our special programmes during July and August."
Gethin Jones says: "Joining Radio 5 Live with my own show is
fantastic and I can't wait to get started. I relish a challenge and
my first venture into radio will be just that.
"I've always loved
the station and look forward to bringing my own flavour to Saturday
mornings."
Gethin was a huge hit as a competitor this year on BBC One's
Strictly Come Dancing, finishing in third place.
He captained his
university rugby union First XV, represented Lancashire and had
trials with Sale RFC.
He is also a talented musician, with Grade 8
Violin, and a qualified pilot.
Whilst on Blue Peter Gethin has
flown with the Red Arrows, fought as a Samurai warrior in Japan and
was the first civilian to complete a 30 mile "yomp" with the Royal
Marine Commandos.
He began his television career on Welsh channel
S4C as a presenter of children's programmes and in 2005 he became
the 31st presenter of the BBC's Blue Peter.
The Gethin Jones Show is a Bite Yer Legs production, executive
produced by Keith Bunker and Isobel Williams.
You can listen to 5 Live via DAB digital radio, online at bbc.co.uk/5live,
on 909 and 693 AM, and on digital satellite.

The Eamonn Holmes programme and Fighting Talk, which are usually

by Gabby Logan, who now has a weekly Sunday morning show.
