The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency
The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency: Anika Noni Rose is Mma Makutsi

The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency

Anika Noni Rose plays Mma Makutsi

Anika Noni Rose believes it was a gift to be able to come to Botswana and tell this tale: "It is such a positive story of people making a life. I hope it allows the world to see Africa/Africans as people instead of an issue. We all live under the same sun; it just happens to be a little hotter here in Botswana."

Anika came to prominence when she was cast as Lorrell Robinson opposite Jamie Foxx, Beyonce Knowles, Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson in the film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Dreamgirls.

On the heels of Dreamgirls she appeared in the comedy feature One Part Sugar and played Lavender in the TV series The Starter Wife with Debra Messing.

Her impressive list of theatre credits includes the Broadway production of Footloose, the Off-Broadway production Eli's Comin' based on the music of Laura Nyro, for which she received an Obie Award; at San Francisco's ACT she starred in Threepenny Opera and in their production of Tartuffe. She also starred in NY Encore's production of Purlie.

Anika received a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical for her role in the widely acclaimed production of Tony Kushner's and Jeanine Tesori's Caroline, Or Change, which she performed in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

She is currently appearing as Maggie in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof on Broadway and in 2009 will be heard as Princess Tiana in Disney's upcoming animated feature of Randy Newman's The Princess And The Frog.
