BBC Three gives Lily a reason to smile
Lily Allen has an extra reason to smile today, as she has landed her own entertainment show on BBC Three.
Lily Allen And Friends (working title) will be based on the social networking phenomenon that helped to launch her career.
Viewers will be invited to become Lily's virtual friends and shape the show by contributing to topical discussions, putting questions to guests and even presenting parts of the show.
The audience will consist entirely of Lily's online friends, who will also have exclusive access to behind-the-scenes footage and can sign up to have highlights sent directly to their phones.
Guests will include the hottest celebrities, topical guests from the online world, chart-topping bands and unsigned acts chosen by members of the network. They will all have a profile within the network that the group can access and comment on in the run-up to the show.
Lily Allen And Friends will also follow the progress of the breaking new music acts showcased on the programme via the network.
Lily Allen says, "I'm so excited that BBC Three are giving me this chance. It's something I intend to have lots of fun with and I have some great ideas for the show. Next year is going to be a brilliant year!"
Danny Cohen, Controller, BBC Three, says: "I'm delighted to welcome Lily to BBC Three. She's one of the hottest acts around and an important voice of her generation.
"Lily Allen And Friends will have its own unique identity as the audience will be intrinsic to the show's content via social networking. Lily launched herself on the web and is the perfect host for this exciting new show."
Elaine Bedell, Controller, BBC Entertainment Commissioning, says: "Lily is opinionated, funny and charming in equal measure. She's a very natural performer and will be a television star. I'm delighted that she's going to be one of the BBC's key entertainment faces."
Lily Allen And Friends is a Princess Productions production. The series was commissioned by Elaine Bedell and Danny Cohen. The BBC's Executive Editor will be Karl Warner.
Lily Allen And Friends is the latest in a raft of new entertainment commissions for BBC Three, building the channel's push into popular studio entertainment shows and formats.
Coming to BBC Three in early 2008, why oh why would you wanna be anywhere else?
